Across South Taranaki the LibraryPlus are marking the Coronation of King Charles III with a range of events for both children and adults, starting on Monday 1 May through to Saturday 6 May. There’s a royal quiz, high tea, crown making and more.
Libraries and cultural services manager Cath Sheard says, “Staff are always looking for ways to connect with the public and a historic event such as this is a great opportunity to bring people together. Though I realise not everyone is a fan of the royal family but, for most residents, this is a once in a lifetime event and a chance to see history being made.”
Sheard says staff have planned events for pre-schoolers right through to seniors because the LibraryPlus try to cater to all ages with their programming and one-off events.
“We even have dementia-friendly and sensory-overload sessions. Meeting people’s needs at any age is important because for building a sense of community. Increasingly our lives are lived online; we pay bills, shop, study and meet people online. Yet many people feel increasingly isolated and disconnected. As a society we want face to face contact. Our libraries provide a safe, inclusive space where people can spend time with others sharing interests such as books or knitting. Equally, people can be “alone, together” while studying, reading, using the free computers and so on,” she says.
If you would like to join us to mark the Coronation, you can find all the details on the South Taranaki LibraryPlus facebook page or popping into your local LibraryPlus.
