South Taranaki LibraryPlus has wrapped up a hugely successful children’s summer reading programme, Summer Blast.
South Taranaki District Council’s senior community outreach librarian Katherine Bosworth says the libraries saw the highest number of registrations received since before COVID, with 253 children joining the programme.
Katherine says one of the highlights of the summer reading programme was having one of New Zealand’s most cherished children’s entertainers and authors, Suzy Cato, perform at the District’s libraries over three days.
“We had about 1,245 people attending our Suzy Cato shows. This was a huge success which received a lot of positive feedback and attention online,” she says.
In a post on her Facebook page, Suzy Cato also shared her love for her time spent performing in the libraries.
“So blessed to have met so many beautiful whanau. To see so many beautiful babes again, who are now beautiful adults and to dance, sing and read stories to a new generation of South Taranaki Tamariki,” she wrote.
Popularity for Cato’s performances stretched beyond district borders, as LibraryPlus Officers reported that families travelled from as far as New Plymouth and Whanganui to see the star in action in South Taranaki.
Katherine says that Summer Blast has been a great programme overall.
“It’s been so great to see and hear stories of children coming in so excited to be part of the programme and so many of our LibraryPlus team had fun chatting with Tamariki about what they have been reading,” she says.
