- Unless stated, no more than three vehicles/tents (where allowed) at each site, you can stay up to three consecutive nights per site.
- Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
Ōpunakē
All freedom camping within the red town boundary is prohibited on Council owned or managed land, except for the areas where it is permitted at the Ōpunakē Recreation Grounds Carpark, Halse Place, Middleton Bay Carpark, Northern Headland Carpark, Hurst Park Railway Reserve, and Ōpunakē Lake (see more information below).
The Ōpunakē Beach Holiday Park is located on Beach Road, people can camp there for a fee.
1. Ōpunakē Recreation Ground Carpark - self contained vehicles only
Heaphy Road, Ōpunakē, western carpark area only.
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.
Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
2. Halse Place - self contained vehicles only
Between Heaphy and Longfellow Roads, Ōpunakē, opposite the Ōpunakē Recreation Grounds.
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 12 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.
Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
3. Middleton Bay Carpark - all vehicles, no tenting
Via Heaphy Road at the corner of Halse Place, Ōpunakē.
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained and non-self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight at the northern end of the carpark.
Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
4. Hurst Park Railway Reserve - self contained vehicles only
Gisborne Terrace, Ōpunakē, between Havelock and Napier Streets - old railway entrance only.
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.
Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
5. Northern Headland Carpark - self contained vehicles only
Wharf Road, Ōpunakē
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.
Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
6. Ōpunakē Lake Carpark and play area - all vehicles and tenting
Layard Street, Ōpunakē
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles, non-self-contained vehicles and tents. A maximum of 6 vehicles and 3 tents can stay at this site overnight.
Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
Manaia
All freedom camping within the red town boundary is prohibited on Council owned or managed land, except for the area where it is it permitted at the Manaia Domain Carpark.
7. Manaia Domain Carpark - self contained vehicles only
Corner of Hassard Street and Bennett Drive, Manaia.
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

Kaponga
All freedom camping within the red town boundary is prohibited on Council owned or managed land, except for the areas where it is permitted at Thoumine Park Carpark and Victoria Park Carpark.
8. Thoumine Park Carpark - self contained vehicles only
Corner of Victoria Street and Riverside Drive, Kaponga.
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 self-contained vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

9. Victoria Park Carpark - all vehicles, no tenting
Park Lane, Kaponga
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 self-contained vehicles can stay at this site overnight.
Do not camp within 10m of public amenities (public toilets, picnic tables, playgrounds) and accessways (roads, footpaths, pathways).
Eltham
All freedom camping within the red town boundary is prohibited on Council owned or managed land, except for the areas where it is permitted at Bridger Park Carpark and Tayler Street Carpark.
10. Bridger Park Carpark - self-contained vehicles only
High Street, Eltham
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 self-contained vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

11. Taylor Par Carpark - self contained vehicles only
Tayler Street, Eltham.
This carpark is located at 36 Tayler Street. The carpark is connected to Taylor Park, which is an off-leash dog park.
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 self-contained vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

12. Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve - all vehicles and tenting
Sangster Rd, Eltham.
Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve is located 15km east of Eltham on Sangster Road. No animals are allowed within the Reserve.
All freedom camping within the Reserve is prohibited except for the areas highlighted in the map below.

Tangahoe Valley
13. Glen Nui Reserve, Lake Rotorangi - tents only
This campground is located 25km east of Eltham on Glen Nui Road.
The campground has toilet facilities. Freedom camping is permitted in tents. A maximum of 3 tents can stay at this site overnight.

14. Pukekino Landing, Lake Rotorangi - All vehicles and tenting
Pukekino Landing is located at the end of Tangahoe Valley Road, 29km (1¼ hr drive) north-east of Hāwera.
Freedom Camping is prohibited in the area shown in the map except for the areas highlighted.

Normanby
All freedom camping within the red town boundary is prohibited on Council owned or managed land, except for the area where it is permitted at the Normanby Domain Carpark.
15. Normanby Domain Carpark - self contained vehices only
Ketemarae Road, Normanby
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

Hāwera
All freedom camping within the red town boundary is prohibited on Council owned or managed land, except for the areas where it is permitted at Turuturu Road Soccer Grounds Carpark, TSB Hub Carpark, and Albion Street Carpark.
The Hāwera Holiday Park is located by the TSB Hub on Waihi Road, people can camp there for a fee.
16. Turuturu Road Soccer Grounds Carpark - self contained vehicles only
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 self-contained vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

17. TSB Hub - self contained vehicles only
Waihi Road or Camberwell Road Carpark, Hawera
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 6 self-contained vehicles can stay at this site overnight, 3 vehicles in the Waihi Road carpark, and 3 vehicles in the Camberwell Road carpark.

18. Albion Street Carpark - all vehicles, no tenting
Albion Street, Hāwera
Freedom camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles and non-self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

19. Waihi Beach Reserve - all vehicles and tenting
Denby Road, Hāwera
Waihi Beach Reserve is located at the end of Denby Road, 5km south of Hāwera.
Freedom Camping is prohibited in the area shown in the map except for the areas highlighted.

The Pātea Beach Holiday Park is located on Beach Road, people can camp here for a fee.
20. York Street Picnic Area - self contained vehicles only
York Street, Pātea
Freedom Camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles. A maximum of 3 vehicles can stay at this site overnight.

21. Mana Bay - all vehicles and tenting
Beach Road, Pātea
Freedom Camping is permitted in the areas highlighted.

Waverley
All freedom camping within the red town boundary is prohibited on Council owned or managed land, except for the areas where it is permitted at the Dallison Park Carpark and Aotea Rotary Community Park Carpark.
23. Wairoa Reserve - Long Beach/Cave Beach Access - self contained vehicles only
Waipipi Road, Waverley
Wairoa Reserve is located 9km south of Waverley in the Waverley Beach settlement.
Freedom Camping is prohibited in the area shown in the map except for the area highlighted. A maximum of 6 self-contained vehicles can stay overnight.
NOTE: There is a campground above this area where people can camp for a fee.

24. Dallison Park Carpark - self-contained vehicles only
