We cordially invite you to participate in a significant commemoration of the Treaty of Waitangi at our community event on Thursday 6 February.
This gathering will be both smoke-free and alcohol-free, ensuring a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all attendees. Taiaroa Neho from Pātea will serve as our esteemed master of ceremonies for the day.
We are privileged to celebrate this important occasion alongside Taranaki ki te Tonga te Roopu o Taikura and our respected local kaumatua, who will commence the event with a heartfelt morning karakia. We are also honoured to have the presence of South Taranaki's mayor, deputy mayor, and other distinguished local leaders, who will join us in this uplifting celebration.
Attendees can anticipate an engaging performance by the talented local Taranaki band, The Groove Hut, at the paepae. Throughout the day, the renowned Whanganui group, COME ON UP, will deliver dynamic performances, infusing energy and joy into our gathering. We are equally excited to welcome the celebrated Pātea Māori Club, Pātea Area School, and local reggae artist Jay Rei. A highlight of our event will be a performance by REI, who has recently achieved remarkable success, including over 12 million Spotify streams, six Waiata Māori Awards, and four nominations for the NZ Music Awards. His hit single, "Nuku te Aio," achieved #1 status on the NZ Top 20 Hot Singles chart, and his captivating performances have consistently attracted sold-out audiences both locally and internationally.
This is an event not to be missed on Waitangi Day in Pātea. In addition to these outstanding performances, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of delicious food options, explore Māori arts, and browse unique craft vendors. Health and well-being services will also be available on-site, provided by Ngāti Ruanui and other local health providers.
We look forward to celebrating this meaningful day with you and your family.
