Te Ramanui o Ruapūtahanga
Located at 121 High Street (on at the corner of High and Regent streets, Hāwera.
The new home for Hāwera LibraryPlus, South Taranaki isite Visitor Information Centre and AA Services, Lysaght Watt Gallery and cafe.
Te Ramanui o Ruapūtahanga is a transformative project that invigorates the heart of Hāwera, while deeply engaging with the local community and mana whenua.
Positioned strategically to maximise the centre’s impact on the South Taranaki community, Te Ramanui o Ruapūtahanga lies in the centre of Hāwera, with direct access to High Street, the town’s main shopping district.
The design reflects the collective stories of the district, both pre and post-European settlement, and is reflective of South Taranaki’s identity. It houses a library, community gallery, tourist information centre, the AA centre and café, all co-located for the first time, providing a seamless visitor experience. The building's form is inspired by the district's rugged black sand beaches and the industrial heritage of old dairy factories, featuring sawtooth roofs. These have been strategically angled off grid for optimal solar panel placement.
