Built in 1957, the Hāwera Memorial Theatre is the gem in the crown of South Taranaki’s performing arts scene. Boasting the biggest stage in the region, the Theatre comprises a 331-person auditorium, full orchestra well, ticket booth, green room and is also adjoined to a couple of separate lounges and hall that are also available for hire.
The facility has the capability to host any manner of event and in its time has staged everything from local performing arts competitions, Tutu’s on Tour with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, to big iconic musical productions such as Les Misérables undertaken by the local (but mighty) Repertory Society.
Upgrading the Theatre has been the passion project of the Hāwera Memorial Theatre Trust for the last decade, supported by South Taranaki District Council.
