Do you want to know your hot from your cold compost?
Between a worm farm and an in-situ compost? And what is the difference between
green and brown matter?
The South Taranaki District Council is teaming up with
Michelle from Goldbush Micro Farm to bring to you a community composting workshop
to teach you how each of these composting methods works and what you can do at
home.
Composting, the traditional method of recycling organic
waste, is great for the environment as it allows food to break down naturally
with oxygen. This technique means it doesn’t release harmful greenhouse gases
into the air, like it would if it was buried in a traditional landfill. In
turn, the nutrients created by composting are great for your home garden with
the added bonus of diverting waste from our landfills.
This free Composting Workshop is taking place on Sunday 7th
August at Goldbush Micro Farm on Austin Road, Normanby, 10am – 12noon. To
register please email your details to
envirosus@stdc.govt.nz or contact Tarin from the Council’s Environment and
Sustainability Team on 0800 111 323.
