Waimate West Boil Water Notice Lifted
Following the required three consecutive days of clear (negative) test results for the Waimate West Water Supply, the Boil Water Notice introduced late on Sunday 28 August is now lifted, says South Taranaki District Council Works Delivery Manager Herbert Denton.
“This means there is no E-coli in the supply and it’s safe to drink the water from your taps without it having to be boiled,” he says.
Residents on the Waimate West water supply, which includes the townships of Manaia and Kaponga, were advised to boil all water used for drinking, and food preparation on Sunday evening after routine tests detected the bacteria Escherichia coli (known as E.coli) in the supply.
Denton says the Waimate West Water Supply is fully treated and chlorinated, so the boil water notice was an extra precautionary measure taken while further tests were being carried out.
“The Council is carrying out an investigation into how we got a positive test result for E-Coli, but early indications are that it was likely caused by a sampling error,” he says.
“We apologise for any concern or inconvenience this event has caused, but we must take a cautious approach when it comes to the health and safety of our residents, and I’d like to thank everyone for their understanding.”
