By-Elections Needed for Two Wards
Two by-elections are now required for South Taranaki District Council positions following the withdrawal of Joanne Peacock from the Pātea Community Board.
Joanne, who was the third highest polling candidate for the Pātea Community Board says she was extremely disappointed to have to withdraw, but due to unforeseen circumstances and work commitments she would no longer be able to give the role the time and dedication it warrants, which isn’t fair on the other board members or the community in general.
Under the Local Electoral Act a by-election must be held to fill the vacant position, rather than simply moving to the next highest polling candidate.
The other by-election is for a Te Hāwera general ward Councillor position.
Nominations for both positions will open on Thursday 24 November and close on 22 December.
Voting will begin on 26 January 2023 and close on Friday noon 17 February 2023.
