Due to low numbers of experienced staff, the Hāwera Aquatic Centre has to close for the next three Saturdays (18, 25 March and 1 April).
“We know that this will be a bit of a disappointment for the community,” says Council's Operations Manager - Property and Facilities Phil Waite. “But we simply can’t safely open the pools without lifeguards.”
“We have, however, arranged things so our learn to swim programme can continue as per normal throughout the week, our doors will be open every day throughout the April school holidays (with the exception of Good Friday when we are normally closed) and operations will run as normal on the other days.”
To keep our facility open as much as possible leading up to Easter, the Hāwera Aquatic Centre will:
- Be closed on Saturdays for the next couple of weeks (18 March, 25 March, 1 April)
- Open later at 10.30am on Sundays (this is when the pool is the quietest)
“Thank you for your patience and understanding while we navigate the next couple of weeks,” says Mr. Waite.
If you are a self-driven, outgoing person and are interested in becoming a lifeguard, bring your CV into the Aquatic Centre or email it through to aquatic@stdc.govt.nz or call (06) 278 0021.
