Between $800K – $900K is being spent on road repairs at two Eltham trouble spots in the coming months says South Taranaki District Council infrastructure services group manager Herbert Denton.
Two concrete pads will be built, one on Collingwood Street, outside Fonterra’s northern entrance and the other on the Clifford Road/Collingwood Street intersection. A new culvert will also be installed at the Clifford Road/ Collingwood Street intersection. Mr Denton says concrete pads need to be built to provide additional strength to cater for the heavy trucks which turn on these roads.
“Due to the frequency and increased weight of the trucks on these roads, doing the usual road repair just doesn’t cut the mustard, which is why we have to use concrete,” he says.
Work on the Collingwood Street pad has started and will take around a month to complete. Work will then begin around Christmas on the Clifford Road/Collingwood Street intersection.
