Water Outage in Hāwera
Large parts of Hāwera experienced water outages just before noon today (Wednesday 19 June) following a major water leak on Glover Road.
The burst pipe, a 375 mm diameter pipe which runs along Glover Road, is one of the main lines which supplies the town.
South Taranaki District Council works delivery manager Rahul Sharma says the leak was quickly isolated, and the town supply supplemented with the reservoir on Scott Street.
“Water was quickly restored using our reservoir although residents will continue to experience reduced pressure until the pipe has been fully repaired.”
Mr Sharma says crews are currently onsite repairing the watermain, which he expects to be completed this evening.
“Once the repair is completed full water pressure will return. This could result in some properties getting some temporary discolouration in their water. If this is the case, just run your cold tap for a couple of minutes until it clears. If the discolouration persists call the Council on 278 0555 so more targeted flushing can be arranged,” he says.
Mr Sharma also asks people to avoid driving on the section of Glover Road heading towards Ketermare Road where the repairs are taking place, if possible.
