Health Warning Kaūpokonui River and in the Waingongoro River at Ohawe

Amounts of potentially toxic cyanobacteria have been found in the Kaūpokonui River at the beach domain and in the Waingongoro River at Ohawe. Cyanobacteria, a naturally occurring algae, can cause serious illness in humans and animals. We advise you avoid swimming or letting pets enter the water.

Road closures

In accordance with Section 342 of the Local Government Act 1974, notice is hereby given that the following roads will be closed to ordinary vehicular traffic for the periods indicated hereunder.

Victoria Street, Pātea (between Derby and Grey Streets)
Thursday 23 January 2025 8am to 12pm
Resealing both sides of Victoria Street at State Highway intersection|
Resident access via Derby and Grey Streets

Upper Parihaka Road, Parihaka (between Upper Kahui and Wiremu Roads)
From 8am Monday 27 January 2025 to 5pm Friday 31 January 2025
Bridge Repairs

It will be an offence under the above Act for any person otherwise than under authority of an authorised period to use these roads for ordinary vehicular traffic during the period of closures..

In all other situations necessitating the use of the roads, contact must be made with the site traffic management coordinators on-site, on the day.
