Scale Ship Regatta to set Sail in Hāwera
For the first time in 23 years, the Scale Ship Regatta won’t be setting sail over Labour Weekend – it will now be taking place at King Edward Park’s boating lake in Hāwera the following weekend on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November.
“Due to conflicting events we have had to change the date and push it back a week,” says Council’s Tourism Team Leader Tarin Hunt. “But what this means it falls during the Taranaki Garden Festival, so we are hoping to see a lot of new people checking out the boats at the lake.”
Model boats, warships, tugboats and racing yachts of all types and sizes will sail the waters from the lake edge by remote control units over the two days.
As well as the boats on Saturday 2 November, there will be a coffee cart and extra activities for the kids.
“This is a good opportunity to get the family into the award winning King Edward Park which is looking its best,” says Tarin. “So make the most of it and bring along a picnic to enjoy while watching the boats and go for a stroll through the gardens.”
As well as the model ships, on Sunday 3 November, The Friends of the Hāwera Parks are holding a Garden Party. Although the event is sold out, take a stroll around the Park while it is bustling with people and soak in the atmosphere.
