Waverley Residents - Boil Water Notice Lifted
Friday 3 January - 1pm update
BOIL WATER NOTICE LIFTED
In consultation with the Taranaki District Health Board, the precautionary Boil Water Notice which was introduced for the Waverley Water Supply is now LIFTED, which means the water from your tap is now safe to drink without having to be boiled.
Since the introduction of the Boil Water Notice on Wednesday 25 December, the Town’s reservoir has been disinfected, the pipe network flushed, and all test results have come back clear of any potentially harmful organisms.
Although the Boil Water Notice is being lifted, the Council will continue with more regular testing of the supply. The Council is also currently reviewing its systems and processes to minimise the likelihood of such an event occurring again.
On behalf of the South Taranaki District Council I would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation, especially at this time of year.
Tuesday 31 December - 8.30am update
Boil Water Notice - Update for Residents
This notice is to update you on where things are at with the Town's water supply since the Boil Water Notice was issued on Christmas Day.
We are continuing to test the water supply daily, and since Wednesday most of the results have come back clear of any potentially harmful organisms which means the situation is improving.
However, the Boil Water Notice will remain in place until we have three consecutive clear test results and are absolutely satisfied the water supply is safe to drink again.
In the meantime, we are doing the following:
- Flushing the town's reticulation (pipe) network
- Continue to disinfect the town's water supply and reservoir
We will continue to take daily test samples form the bores, reticulation and reservoir.
How long will the Boil Water Notice be in place?
The Boil Water Notice will remain in place until the town's water is deemed to be safe. It is hard to put a timeframe on it, but we expect the Boil Water Notice will need to remain in place over the New Year Period at least. Once the Taranaki District Health Board is satisfied the supply is safe to drink, the Boil Water Notice will be lifted, we will let you know as soon as this happens.
Free bottled water is available from the Waverley LibraryPlus and 4 Square for residents who are on the urban supply.
Thank you for your patience and co-operation.

Wednesday 25 December, 5pm
Routine tests have detected the possibility that the bacteria Escherichia coli (known as e-coli) may be in the Waverley Water Supply.
As a precaution, we are advising that residents boil all water used for drinking, brushing teeth or for food preparation until further notice.
Bringing water to the boil is enough to kill all bugs (however, we recommend boiling water for about 1 minute).
At this stage tests have indicated the water bores are clear of the bacteria.
Anyone showing symptoms of sickness should visit their doctor as soon as possible.
Council is in regular contact with the Taranaki District Health Board and is taking action to return the supply to normal.
Further information and updates will be provided on Council’s website, www.southtaranaki.com or alternatively contact us on 0800 111 323. Please download the mobile app Antenno to have updates sent directly to your mobile phone.
We are extremely sorry to be delivering this news to you today – but we need to do what we can to ensure the health and safety of our community.
Council staff are door knocking to inform Waverley residents in person this evening.
