Wind turbine blades en route to Waipipi Wind Farm from Tuesday

Early risers may catch a glimpse of giant wind turbine blades en route from Port Taranaki to the Waipipi Wind Farm in Waverley from Tuesday 2 June.

Two 64m-long blades will be transported by truck, leaving the port at 3am on Tuesday and arriving at Waipipi Wind Farm at approximately 8am.

Daily transports will continue until early October.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency System Manager Ross I’Anson says the blades will be moved via Breakwater Road, Pioneer Road and South Road in New Plymouth, then along State Highway 45 and State Highway 3, and finally Rangikura Road in Waverley.

“Motorists may experience some delays at Manaia as the trucks carrying the oversized cargo negotiate the roundabout in the centre of town at approximately 6am.

“Please take extra care and, where possible, avoid the area during this time," says Mr I’Anson.

The cargo is being transported by Heavy Haulage company PTS Logistics.

Wind turbine blades destined for Mercury's new wind farm under construction in Turitea, Manawatū are also being transported along State Hightway 44 and State Highway 3 to a storage facility outside Palmerston North until August.
