Hāwera Indoor Pool closed for painting

The Hāwera Aquatic Centre indoor pools will be closed from Tuesday 5 January to enable the 25metre and toddlers’ pools to be painted. Due to the dust and noise that will be generated by the preparatory works, the toddlers, thermal and hydroslide areas will also be unavailable during this time.

People wanting to have a swim and enjoy some fun at the pool will still be able to make use of the outdoor 50metre and toddlers’ pools during this time.

Aquatic Services team leader Candice Kowalewski says “We understand it is inconvenient to some of our users, however this time of year is best suited to getting the indoor pools painted. The outdoor pools will be available for lane swimmers, training and recreation.”

The pools were last painted six years ago and are showing signs of wear and tear.

Once the pools have been painted, around a week is required for the paint to cure and the indoor area to be ventilated to remove the strong fumes, before the pools can be refilled and heated prior to re-opening.

Draining of water from the pools will begin on Tuesday 5 January and work is expected to be complete and the pools reopened on 30 January.
