Free Disposal for Storm Related Greenwaste in South Taranaki
South Taranaki District Council works delivery manager Herbert Denton says Council is removing fees for storm-related greenwaste at all transfer stations across the District for a week starting on Wednesday.
Mr Denton says the District experienced some pretty wild weather over the last two weekends and this would help get things tidied up in the aftermath.
The free disposal of storm-related greenwaste at the transfer stations will start on Wednesday 16 Feb and continue until close of business on Wednesday 23 February.
Mr Denton says there are certain things which must not go in the greenwaste as they cannot be broken down. “We accept untreated branches up to 10cm in diameter and general garden waste and leaves. We do not accept flax, cabbage tree leaves, treated timber, sawdust, rubble and soil in our greenwaste disposal. Mr Denton says residents are also invited to use the surplus sand brought in for sandbags, available at the Ōpunakē Transfer Station and Rāhotu Tavern.
Around 8 roads are still closed in the District and caution needed with another 20. Roading crews are out across the District clearing slips and repairing damage. Mr Denton expects that the majority of local roads should be open by tonight as long as the weather remains fine.
