Disruption to kerbside waste collection service
South Taranaki District Council (STDC) is asking residents to hold onto their glass recycling next week to help free up drivers for the district's kerbside collection service.
STDC communications manager Gerard Langford says due to Covid-19 related staff shortages, and with limited drivers available, the Council’s kerbside rubbish and recycling contractors are struggling to get around all their routes in their usual timeframes.
“We’re asking residents to please leave their rubbish/recycling/greenwaste bins out on the kerbside if they haven’t been emptied on their usual day and they will be emptied the following day.”
“In an effort to free up drivers, next week (from Monday 25 April to Saturday 30 April) we won’t be collecting the glass (blue crates) for recycling, but we expect that we will be able to resume collecting the glass the following week,” says Mr Langford.
Residents can also take their glass for recycling to any of the district’s transfer stations for no charge.
“We appreciate our residents’ cooperation and understanding while we try to work through these Covid related challenges and encourage them to call 0800 111 323 if they have any problems.”
