Keeping of Animals in an Urban Area

The requirements and definitions for keeping of other animals in urban areas within the South Taranaki District are identified in our Keeping of Animals Bylaw (2018).
Our bylaw outlines the following:
- Rooster, gander, peacock, stallion, bull, ram, un-neutered male goat and pigs are not permitted within residential addresses.
- Bees and chickens are to be kept in a well-constructed and adequately maintained facility to ensure the health and safety of people and themselves.
- any other animals must not cause a nuisance to the public including noise or odour.
- breaches of this bylaw may result in enforcement action.
Any complaints received in relation to the keeping of other animals will be investigated.
